August 21st: 38 Weeks

Friday, August 21st 38 weeks

Weekly Doctor Appointment:
Sheez, what's with all this weight gain - another 5 lbs in ONE WEEK - up to 165, I'm not sure where it's going because I don't look or feel big anywhere but my stomach. Met with Dr. Archibald and she took measurements and said I was definitely measuring big and wants to do an ultrasound next week to see just how big this baby already is.
She's OK if he's a 9lb baby but fears if he's already 9 or 10 lbs that it might get complicated and we have to think about other options like a C-Section. NO WAY! i'll do whatever to avoid that. Induce yes but not surgery - that's not in the cards if I can help it. I so want to be able to walk out of there after 24 hours with the baby and get back to normal quickly. But I must say that I'm excited to have another sonogram and see how big he is and what he looks like :-)

Pregnancy:
This week has been brutally hot and humid and I walk slowly like a turtle and rest often. Can't sleep too well at night, get up and pee every hour and the heart burn has kicked in again. I just can't get comfortable. I'm glad I kept my nursing pillow because that has been a fab item to stuff between my legs and use as a body pillow. It keeps Dante from kicking me in the stomach to - it's a soft barrier. He's still sleeping in my bedroom and loves to roll around in his sleep, sideways, upside down, vertical, horizontal, sprawled out like a spider - you name it. I love sleeping with him :-) but for me, it's like a princess and the pea. 4-5 pillows propped up to cushion my back and body, the body pillow for my legs and belly.

and then there's the baby kicking. He loves to kick on my right side, I think it's a knee and elbow that I feel the most. Sometimes it rolls across my tummy like a snake and other times it's a poke poke kick. Then he'll stretch out and I'll feel his bones on both sides of my tummy. He's very very active! but when I try and sleep on my right side (which i prefer) i get poked and kicked even more, so sticking to my left as much as possible is best for initial sleep. Then I seem to wake up every house and roll over to the other side and fall back asleep. (sigh)

Apartment Renovations
Well, I move into my new apt next week baby or no baby. Not sure why I leave everything to the last hour or minute but, I'm trying not to stress about it. Renovations have been happening since I closed on the place in February and here we are, nearly Sept and the walls are down, closets are built, trimming done and the cabinets are being installed as I write. The unclear thing is whether or not I'll be moving into a place with no counter tops, sink or backsplash oh and handles or pulls
on the cabinet drawers. There's not much I can do about it at this point but wait and hope it's done sooner rather than later. I knew I was saving everything for the last minute and the best was hoping everything would be done before the clock struck midnight. But oh well.. It'll get done eventually even tho I might need to eat take out
for a while and wash dishes in the bathroom sink. I'm also praying the the weather lets up. I don't have A/C in the apt yet and was hoping to hold off until next year. My architect told me it's been brutal on the workers - it's been in the 90s and very humid the past week. I've got fans but that's it. Next step is to have a professional cleaner come in and make sure everything is sanitary, clean, odor free and ready
for the move. Mom comes in on Wed to help pack, dad arrives on Friday to help pack as well and Saturday, it's moving day!!!!

So - if baby boy wants to come this weekend or early next week, I'm good with that.
but baby, please don't come next weekend when I'm moving, that would be way inconvenient, am I jyxing myself now :-)

I'm excited to move into a new place tho - seems like the standard for me. I moved into Sty Town one month before Dante was born and I'm moving to my new home 1 week or so before baby two is born. (we're starting to call him Marco/Marcus now.. let's see if it will stick. other front runners are Zev, Raphael, Sandro, I wish Beckett was in
the running but Rahav won't even listen to me say it any longer.) It seems to happen a lot though with couples having babies. More often I meet folks to moved just before or after the birth of a child. must be a nesting thing or wanting to upgrade living standards before the birth and just not getting everything timed correctly - like myself.. there's only so much you can control and what you can't, hands up in the air and hope for the best :-)

Work
Today was my last day at work until March 2010. wow WOW WOOOOW! My replacement Sinead started last week and I spent the last ten days training her, organizing my computer, copying files, cleaning up and getting ready for a long hiatus. I introduced her to everyone in the office and via e-mail and "passed the baton" as if I wasn't coming
back. SIX months is quite a long time to be away from a job. So much "can" happen in that time + it's the perfect amount of time to really get settled into a role and feel comfortable and start forgetting the previous people. Everyone sent their best wishes and congratulations and "we'll miss you" and "see you in six months" and gave me a lovely Bliss spa gift certificate. I'm quite sure all will be fine when I get back.

But still, it's that transition and change that is hard to get used to. Also the "what am I going to do with myself even with 2 babies for six months." will i4get everything I know? will I not want to return to work? will i be climbing up the walls come January when the NYC weather gets brutal and cold? Who knows - I can only take it
one day at a time and there's so much to do in the meantime but then again, there's lots of downtime since I'm limited in my mobility. I should get some good online hobbies, or tackle some of these ever looming projects I've been meaning to get to since I was last pregnant :-) like photo albums, music organizing and downloading, reading up on art and classic novels, getting around to technology manuals for my
camera, ipod and G1 Android phone, DIY tips for cooking and the home, photo scanning and archiving... this list is endless and still seems miles away...
